Two Paintings

November 19, 2008

I had the great pleasure of painting at the New Horizons Dessert Auction a week ago.  New Horizons is a fantastic ministry that takes care of the growing population of homeless teens in downtown Seattle.  There was about 800 in attendance at the dessert, and I created this painting above which will be auctioned later on.  If you don’t know much about New Horizons, you should really check them out (website).

For my second painting…. it’s something that I just made for Holly and I’s new condo.  We are trying to get art and make art to fill up all the walls.  This is my first contribution to the living room.  I like it a lot.

I have some art hangings coming up in December that I’ll let you know about.  But until then…. cheers.

Make space for art.

First Thursday Art Opening

November 5, 2008

Hey everyone!

I’ve had a busy fall being the artist in residence at all the Youth Specialties conferences.  I just got back from Pittsburgh, and I did the Sacramento one before that.  In a couple weeks I finish off in Nashville which will be the biggest one of them all… about 5000 in attendence.  I paint during all the general sessions, and host an art resource/creating room called the ArtDen. It’s been a great experience and I’ve met a ton of very cool people.  If you’re a good friend of mine and you haven’t seen me in awhile, well I hope this email let’s you know I’m not dead.  You can click on the picture below to see pictures from the last two conventions… paintings I’ve done and some other fun ones.

In the mean time… I want to invite you all to an art opening that’s going on this thursday…..

November 6 | The Vancouver Project

Opening Reception: First Thursday, 6-9pm
Fat Tiger Studio | 3rd Floor
619 Western Ave., Seattle WA

press release:
“Fat Tiger Studio is pleased to announce the first showing of the traveling exhibition, The Vancouver Project.  In August 2008, six emerging artists Scott Erickson, Jen Grabarczyk, Scott Kolbo, Jeremy Mangan, Christen Mattix, and Matt Whitney drove from Seattle to Vancouver, B.C. for two weeks of uninterrupted artmaking in a large shared studio.  Over the course of two weeks, experiments occurred, ideas and stories were exchanged, and friendships forged.  The work of these artists is stylistically diverse ranging from abstract to illustrative, from expressionist to graphic.   Themes include personal narrative, religion, politics, surrealism, and memory.  The project was generously sponsored by individuals and churches seeking to ease artists’ financial and conceptual constraints–providing room, board and art materials, so that they could create work without distractions.  The Vancouver Project will travel throughout the Pacific Northwest.”
It’s going to be a big sexy art party with lots of food, drink, music, and art!  So I don’t have to convince you that it’s going to be the place to be. Hope to see you there.
cheers!

Hey friends…..

Just wanted to let you know about my next gig… and it’s a doozy!

It’s the Round, yes…. but it’s a killer line up.  We’ve got David Bazan (Pedro the Lion, Headphones), Aaron Sprinkle (Fair), and Gabe Archer (The Pale Pacific) all playing together… working their collaborative magic into a whirlpool of musical ecstacy!

It will be enjoyable.

The poet is James Caroline from Massachusetts.  And I will be painting with the lovely Skye Graves… a local girl with a lot of talent.

Tuesday, October 14th

8-10:15pm | all-ages | 730 doors

$12 adv / $15 door / $17 reserved

Two Events This Weekend!!!

September 24, 2008

Hey homies.  I have two events that I would like to invite you too.

Sunday Night is a concert at the Green Bean Coffee Shop with Nashville musician Alli Rogers. She’ll be singing, and I’ll be painting.  Exciting as always!

Then this Friday night I will be making a series of paintings during a fundraiser called Conspiracy #1… which is to help raise money to aid in the Darfur crisis.  Music will be provided by DJ Tim Wescott and the Lonely Forest… who are awesome.  It will be held at the Diocesan House with is next to St. Marks Cathedral on Capital Hill in Seattle.  I guess it’s going to be like a big party - catered, music, bally-hoo.
